Untapped Launches at City Hall
A New Chapter for Youth in Ottawa
On March 28th, something shifted in Ottawa.
City Hall—typically associated with policy, procedure, and formal decision-making—was transformed into a vibrant, youth-driven space filled with energy, creativity, and connection. Inexploité, hosted by Youth Ottawa and the Ottawa Youth Council, brought together a sold-out room of young people, community leaders, and partners for an evening that felt fundamentally different.
This wasn’t just another event.
It was the beginning of something bigger.
Reimagining City Hall
For many young people, City Hall is not a place they naturally see themselves. It’s often experienced through structured school visits or from a distance.
But on this night, that changed.
From 5:30PM to 9PM—during what are often referred to as “critical hours”—young people filled the space on their own terms. They networked, shared ideas, explored opportunities, and participated in conversations that felt real, relevant, and energizing.
Holding Untapped in the heart of civic decision-making wasn’t just a logistical choice. It was symbolic.
It sent a clear message:
Youth belong in these spaces—not someday, but now.
A Different Kind of Energy
The evening blended:
- Open networking and connection-building
- A fireside conversation focused on mindset, growth, and real-life journeys
- Cultural performances and creative expression
- Youth-led program showcases and opportunities
What stood out most was the energy.
Young people stayed.
They leaned into conversations.
They asked questions.
They explored what comes next.
This wasn’t passive attendance, it was active engagement.
Introducing Y.O.S.™ — A New System for Youth Opportunity
At the center of the evening was the introduction of something new:
Y.O.S.™ — the Youth Opportunity System
Unveiled in its alpha form, Y.O.S. represents a shift in how youth development is approached in Ottawa.
Rather than adding another standalone program, Youth Ottawa is working to build infrastructure—a connected system that links:
- mentorship
- media and storytelling
- entrepreneurship
- civic engagement
- after-school programming
- real-world pathways
The goal is to move from fragmented, short-term experiences to something continuous, visible, and scalable.

Youth Voice in Action: YAM Feature
A powerful part of the night was seeing youth not just participate—but create.
Through the Youth Active Media (YAM) program, a participant captured and produced a video highlighting the energy and key moments of Untapped.

This is what youth-led storytelling looks like:
- real moments
- authentic voices
- perspective from inside the experience
YAM continues to provide young people with the tools, platform, and confidence to tell stories that matter.

More Than an Event
Untapped is not designed to be a one-time experience.
It is part of a broader vision to:
- create consistent, youth-centered spaces
- connect young people to real opportunities
- build long-term pathways across the city
- and develop a system that supports youth continuously; not episodically
Future Untapped events will continue to build on this momentum, bringing youth back into spaces that matter and expanding what’s possible.
The Beginning of a Shift
What happened on March 28th was important—not because everything is finished, but because something has started.
A shift:
- from attending → to engaging
- from programs → to systems
- from waiting → to building
Ottawa’s young people are ready.
Now, the city is beginning to meet them there.
